The Digital Trade Business Acceleration Program

Empowering Kenyan MSMEs for Digital Success

Welcome to Ongoza's Digital Trade Business Acceleration Program, your gateway to a brighter business future. Join hands with us and PeCI as we empower Kenyan MSMEs to overcome challenges, seize opportunities, and thrive in the digital age

Background

In the heart of Kenya’s vibrant economy, Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) shine as the unsung heroes, driving innovation and providing livelihoods to millions. These businesses constitute a staggering 98% of all enterprises in Kenya, employing around 80% of the nation’s workforce. Yet, beneath this economic dynamism lie challenges that threaten to stymie their growth.

Limited access to finance, isolated business networks, and a lack of market information form formidable barriers to their development. It is here that the intersection of technology and visionary initiatives comes to the rescue. In this blog, we delve into the challenges faced by Kenyan MSMEs, explore how the Pan African e-commerce initiative (PeCI) and Ongoza are taking centre stage in addressing these issues, and discover how Ongoza’s vision is changing the game, not just for businesses but for the entire nation.

The Challenges Faced by Kenyan MSMEs

Kenyan MSMEs are the backbone of the nation’s economy, but they often grapple with structural challenges that limit their growth potential.

Limited Access to Finance

Many small businesses struggle to secure the necessary capital to expand their operations or invest in digital technologies.

Networking and Connections

Isolated from vital business networks and connections, MSMEs find it challenging to enter new markets and establish partnerships.

Market Information

Lack of access to up-to-date market information hampers decision-making and growth strategies.

A Partnership for Progress

To address these challenges head-on, the Pan African e-commerce initiative (PeCI), commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), has taken center stage. PeCI is committed to strengthening the e-commerce framework and enhancing the capacity of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) across selected Kenyan counties. In this mission, PeCI has joined hands with private organizations like Ongoza, creating a powerful alliance to empower Kenyan entrepreneurs in the realm of cross-border e-commerce.

Ongoza's Digital Trade Business Acceleration Program

Ongoza, in collaboration with PeCI, is set to launch its groundbreaking Digital Trade Business Acceleration Program in four Kenyan counties within the year. This seven-week hybrid acceleration program aims to:

Cross-Border Trade
