Who We Are

We are Ongoza. We provide practical, real-time business advice to young, ambitious Kenyan entrepreneurs. We also build a community of entrepreneurs by connecting them with market opportunities, and of course each other. What unites our entrepreneurs is their grit, hustle, and vision to grow their businesses.

We came from humble beginnings, founded by Eddy Gicheru Oketch in Migori, Nyanza Province in 2008. Ongoza was initially a peacebuilding initiative supporting Kenyan youth to create sustainable employment.

Since then, we have undergone a series of evolutions. However, one thing remains, we are still passionate about supporting entrepreneurs we work with to create sustainable employment. We strive for positive economic change by providing practical, customised advisory services to our entrepreneurs.

Our name Ongoza, the imperative “to lead” in Kiswahili, represents our belief that young entrepreneurs are the business leaders that drive Kenya’s economy.

Our Mission

We equip entrepreneurs to grow and scale their businesses so they can be at the center of a prosperous Kenya.

Our Vision

We exist to solve the twin problems affecting Kenya’s youth: youth unemployment and small business failure.

Our vision and mission for the organisation are governed by our four key values

Act Together.

We are open and inclusive. We prize ideas over hierarchy, value differences, and proactively support each other to achieve team goals.

Improve Always.

We actively seek and implement quick feedback for learning, innovation, and improvement both in what we do and how we do it. We evolve based on data, our experience, customer feedback, research, and industry trends.

Don’t Solve the Same Problem Twice.

We proactively communicate problems and build structures to address them in a consistent, systematic way.

Demand Excellence.

We consistently go above and beyond expectations to deliver the highest quality and professionalism in everything we do.
