Who we Are

Our Story

We came from humble beginnings – founded by Eddy Gicheru Oketch in Migori, Nyanza Province in 2008, Ongoza was initially a peacebuilding initiative supporting Kenyan youth to create sustainable employment. Since then, we have undergone a series of evolutions. However, one thing remains, we are still passionate about supporting entrepreneurs we work with to create sustainable employment. We strive for positive economic change by providing practical, customised advisory services to our entrepreneurs.

We provide practical, real-time business advice to young, ambitious Kenyan entrepreneurs. We also build a community of entrepreneurs by connecting them with market opportunities and of course each other. What unites our entrepreneurs is their grit, hustle, and vision to grow their businesses.

Our name Ongoza, the imperative “to lead” in Kiswahili, represents our belief that young entrepreneurs are the business leaders that drive Kenya’s economy. With many entrepreneurs lacking access to the experience, networks, and capital necessary for success, almost half fail within their first year.
We seek to address the challenges faced by the young Kenyan business community and provide them with the advice, skills, and guidance they need to grow their businesses. By addressing the current issues that our entrepreneurs face, and anticipating ones they may face in the future, we equip them with the confidence to become stable, self-sufficient businesses.
Business courses are often too broad and consultants are often too expensive. That’s why we came up with a tailored, holistic solution focused entirely on the emerging needs of the young Kenyan entrepreneur. We work with entrepreneurs across a diverse range of sectors, including manufacturing, agribusiness, retail, service, and tech.
Whether you’re an entrepreneur, consultant, or are involved in the entrepreneur ecosystem, join our movement to transform the Kenyan economy by empowering youth leaders.
